When Did Fact-Based Journalism ...

become an OXY MORON?  As I remember it ... when I was in college, lo those many years ago ... we were required to have actual facts in our journalism papers. Going-to-the-library-based-facts. The Who, When, Where, Why, and How based facts.

If we did our research, had a substantial reason for writing the words, and could then put more than six coherent, correctly spelled, sentences together ... we got well-founded A's or B's. We didn't even think of putting our "opinions" into the papers ... that was for Poetry 101 or Composition 203. For Journalism 100-900 classes ... we were required to report facts based on our own research.

So, about 8 years ago ... President George H.W. Bush was elected ... yes, ELECTED ... to office. This upset many people in all areas of "journalism" (now, a word forever, correctly presented with quotes around it). These "intelligent", "well meaning", "journalism" majors became enraged. And, like most humans who become chiefly motivated by emotion, they forwent ALL of their "ethical" standards and began "reporting" with a skewed eye to "motivating" people to make their lives better ... BY BELIEVING WHAT THE "JOURNALISTS" BELIEVE.

I, for one, lone 40ish woman, do not believe that "journalists" who are "journalificating" with their "journaligiouslity" have any clue what main-stream, middle-of-the-road Americans BELIEVE !!  They no more represent the views and opinions of me or my friends than a bunny represents the beliefs of a sea gull. "Journalists" have given up seeking facts ... and are now only seeking to "effect" their readers (or listeners). They no longer surround themselves with a diverse group of humans that could dialogue about different views and opinions ... they are cloistered and alone in their tight-knit groups of "journalism" devotes.  Sad, really. Not seeing light through anything but your own red-tinted glasses (rose is too nice a color for how these morons tend to express their views about my America).

So, until "journalism" schools begin teaching "journalism" the way it should be ... fact based and opinless -- unless it's an op-ed piece, I will pay NO attention to their rantings or ravings. They are useless bags of hot wind ... filling their own sails and steering themselves and the rest of their "followers" WAY OFF COURSE.  Ta-ta-for-now ... you mindless "journalifilatious" idiots!
